History

Efko processes approximately 45,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetable a year in Austria. The company’s 200 employees (with an additional 230 during the harvest period) are dedicated to ensuring that “a jar of the finest“ maintains the excellent standard of quality, which its customers have grown to love and appreciate.

Fruitful Development

The fertile soil of the Eferdinger basin provides the ideal conditions for cultivating - and thereby enhancing the taste of - fruit and vegetables. In 1941, a group of visionary farmers founded the Eferding Agricultural Cooperative, the forerunner of Efko. Subsequently, the trade of fresh fruit and vegetables began in the early 1950’s. “A jar of the finest“ embarked on the road to success.

Today, Efko specialises in the cultivation, harvest and preparation of 190 different varieties of fruit and vegetables and has established itself as the most important producer of pickles in Austria. The company has also been producing the finest quality salads since 1983. Efko secures the existence of 250 farmers operating in the Eferdinger basin region by allowing them to receive a fair price to cover the cost of their harvest – without having to rely on national subsidy.
